Re: Whirring clutch - what ya reckon ?
Probably the release bearing. Unfortunatly it a pig of a job as you have to take the gearbox out to get to it. Its all very tight and there is a nack to removing it. Do-oable but more than just a couple of hours if you're doing it at home. I gave up and handed over to Jamie at the Alfa Workshop. A clutch kit with the plate and bearing should be about £150 from memory. I can't recall what Jamis charges.
One other possibility is a worn gearbox shaft. You aften only hear this when you depress the clutch. Its worth giving her a proper gearbox oil change anyway unless you know its been done recently. A little bit fiddly but less than an hour's work, most of which is mucking around with the undertray.
