Re: Suspension / bumpstop advice
I'm no expert but there doesn't appear to be a great deal wrong with that spring, however as you fitting good ones that won't be an issue anyway. Your picture shows the classic position for a GTV bumpstop, you will probably find that the little knob has fallen off the top of it. You can get new bump-stops from AlternativeAutos and probably several others such as EBSpares etc. When removing the spring you will probably also remove the black collar at the top of the spring which locates it to the subframe. In the centre of this collar should be a small hole. It is this hole through which the little knob on top of the bump-stop fits, thereby locating and holding it in place. Unfortunately this collar is of plastic coated steel, and the steel around the locating hole often rots away, allowing the bump stop to fall. I don't think these collars are available any more, but may be wrong. I fixed mine by fabricating a thickish washer made of plastic, put it in the top of the collar and then shove the *** on the bump stop through that. It might sound unclear, but will be obvious once you have the bits in your hand. I haven't checked mine lately, but wouldn't be at all surprised if the little b**** had dropped off again. Whilst you're fiddling around under there it might be good idea to check all the bushes, and also the drop links. Drop links do make a knocking noise, and are cheap to replace, but can be a nuisance to get the old ones off. Good luck.
