"It failed on the headlight aim being too low on both lights, missing mounting on the exhaust. excessive play in the trailing arm pin/bush and excessive CO after the 2nd fast idle"

Hopefully nothing a hammer and some gaffer tape can't fix

I expect the headlights are fairly simple to rectify (or is there something that often breaks?)
Exhaust mounting and suspension bush seem straightforward.
Excessive CO - lambda sensor?

Oh, and the aircon doesn't work and the engine rattles like a diesel. But hey, I expect it will be a good introduction to the mechanics of a 2.0TS :)

Wouldn't it be funny if the low lights was due to the regulator being set for a heavy rear load... Could also be that it's stuck in that position. Have you checked?

Good luck in getting is sorted  ... how much did you pay for it??

P reg (presumed 96) and 112k. Some history including cambelt at 82k. Owner knows a bit about Alfas as he reckons the diesel rattle is the variator.

I've already bought new genuine variator + belt tensioner, just need to start collecting the rest of the service/MOT fix parts. Oh, and collect the car of course ;)

Good luck - '96 is one of the first and at 112k it will need some stuff.

Good that the cambelt was changed at 82k - next change at 118k. However if the variator needs changing now then that's gonna cost at least £500.

Rear suspension bushes are always worth a look - does the rear end "clunk" - is there a bit of wear on the inside of the rear tyres? If the answer to both is "No" then great. If not - another £500.

Aircon - if all of the controls work - fan, vents, hot air, then the news is good and bad. Good because it is just an aircon problem - bad because that could be expensive - best case scenario - £100 or so for a recharge.

Headlights - not a problem - I have never met anybody who has ever used the electronic beam adjustment other than just to aim at a wall, turn the knob and say "oh so that's what it does". Just manually adjust them and forget.

Lost V5 means nothing,Get a bill of sale and check for outstanding finance, that should be enough to sort the sale
D
Appreciate that, just not in a position to wait 6 weeks to get the V5 in my name. The plan was to MOT and sell it asap (see below).

I could have done but something better has landed in my lap -
1 owner, 70k TS W reg, £1000 spent in Feb 08 - £2300. And it's two doors away:)

Just need to raise a grand in the next 10 days. I sense an ebay frenzy coming on..

I'll keep y'all posted;)
