Re: GTV V6 prices
I think the real price of a V6 is the purchase price plus the money you have had to spend in the first year. You can easily buy a sub £3000 V6 and you may be lucky. Alternatively, you may have to factor in any number of common jobs which all seem to be charged in multiples of £500 - cam belt, rear suspension, tyres, oil cooler and radiator, steering rack, clutch, exhaust etc.
My point is, with a say 8-10 year old car with 60+K miles, you can't stop holding your breath until you have replaced most of the common fail points. Even then, you can still be stung on almost anything - e.g. diff failure. Good V6s all seem to cost £4 - 4.5K - its just a matter of when you pay the money - initially or spread over the first year.
(FWIW - I've gone for the second option. Paid £3,300 for one with everything done on above list bar steering rack, exhaust and clutch. Allowed myself £1000 for the first year and I'm worried that it will not be enough!)
