diesel sort of noise and dash lights

hi just bought a GTV the hydrolic lifters need doing & it needs new discs at the front, on the dash there is the handbrake light on all the time even when the handbrake is off and what appears to be a nossle with 3 lines out the bottom of it. is this due to the lifters need doing and the brakes need doing?

Yesterday i was driving and all of a sudden the engine got pretty loud and slightly sounded like it was knocking. i parked up and left it as its new and didnt wana cause any further damage. when we got back there later my dad came with me to pick it up and he said its the top end and was ok to drive back. so i drove back and it a loud ticking sound between about 1.5k revs to about 2.7k then is quiet. but since has got even quiter and only a little ticky sometimes. does anybody have any ideas other than do the lifters or is it not even the lifters at all?
you help would be much apprieciated
cheers Bob

Check attached pictures; the handbrake light also indicates low brake fluid level. Check that level first, or maybe the low fluid switch is broken (that's in the brake fluid reservoir cap). If they prove to be OK, it's the hand brake lever switch.

The other light tells you 'injection failure' which can be loads of things, but check MAF sensor and Lambda first -they're 'easiest' to check.

With regards to the noise... when was the last time you checked your oil?

Re: diesel sort of noise and dash lights

Agree with the other replies on here, all good advice.

If it's a TS the ' ticking ' noise could be the Variator, common cause of diesel type noise, especially on start up. The sudden immediate start of the noise doesn't usually happen though.

The Variator is often changed during the cam belt job which should be done at 36k/3 years, whichever comes sooner.

As Jimmer said the oil level in a TS is crucial, should always be kept at the full mark.
