An Alfa friend stateside has connections in South Africa and was able to obtain a few 6-speed transmissions (2 156 boxes , 1 from the 916 GTV) and put them on the slow boat to the United States for a few of us crazy guys. Q2's were bought from AH Motorsports and I have patiently been waiting for my tranny. Finally the transmissions arrived just last week.
With the exception of having to fabricate 1 special bracket, these newer 6 speed gearboxes will match right up to the 3.0L V6 engines in our 164's. JJ had already installed a 6 speed this past winter into his 164 along with a 3.45L big bore V6 . But at the time he didn't get an LSD . I'm not sure how much more torque he is sending through the wheels with his Glennwood built 3.45L but he is certainly in need of that LSD! I had the opportunity to drive his car and there is definately torque steer present...the car is eager and will certainly benefit from this addition.
The one real modification for us though is needing to use a black box solution for the speedo. The older 5 speeds used a speedo gear off the box. Now we have to pick up a signal from the dizzy or ABS sensor and send it through a signal converter box to get a functional speedometer. Well worth it in the end though. I look forward to installing the gearbox and the LSD this winter or perhaps Spring at the latest.
