Having read a few posts on here about failed thermostats, and considering my Gtv takes ages to warm up, I thought I'd replace mine. New one was £18 including postage and VAT from shop4parts and I've changed it today on my lunch break - took about 10 mins max. Didn't bother syphoning off the coolant as I thought may as well top it up with some fresh stuff while I was there. Unsurprisingly, the thermostat had failed about 2mm open.
My question: I haven't run the car yet so haven't checked for leakage, but should I worry that the original gasket is still on there? The new 'stat didn't come with one. None of the gasket came off with the old 'stat and it appears smooth and undamaged. What are your opinions?
There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those that can read binary, and those who can't.
