There is a TDC mark on the lower crank pulley which aligns with a mark on the lower cam belt cover. This is to signify that Cylinder 1 is at TDC.
If you align this mark with number 1 cylinder on compression stroke, the cam locking blocks should fit. You will need to remove the cam cover and number 3 bearing caps on both cams to do this.
If they don't fit then the timing is out.
The easiest way to check if cylinder one is on compression stroke is to check the cam lobes on the inlet cam on number 1 cylinder face backwards towards the bulkhead.
If the cambelt has been changed in the past without the use of blocks you can almost gaurantee that the timing will be out slightly.
You will never be cool driving a Vauxhall.
