Testing quiet bushes

Hi guys bought a 96 GTV for buttons a while back, it has a monster service history that details bushes being done a long time ago but I'm worried about them going again and taking out the rear subframe.
The car doesn't knock or bump but when I had the rear wheels off for a refurb today I lifted the disc/hub by hand and got a bit of a squeek which sounded like it came from the shock.
Got me thinking, how can I test the bushes? The front drop link bushes/ wishbone bushes look a bit perished and cracked but aren't knocking/squeeking and the car handles 100%
What should i look for on the rear? Would rather replace the set of bushes with powerflex than the whole rear subframe but at the same time I on't want to spent a fortune on a very cheap car which I won't be keeping for very long

It's hard to say without seeing it but you'd be lucky to get 50k miles on the standard bushes. On a lift you can test them for movement with a crowbar - not recommended using a jack.

You can probably get the rear end powerflexed for £4-500 - worth it in my opinion.
