Re: Changing the starter motor
im not sure about the P1 GTV if its any different to a P2 at all but i have had this problem a while back and from what i can remember of the job its relatively easy, if a tad fiddly.
first you have to take the induction system off from the airbox all the way up to the throttle body.
you dont need to take the intake manifold off but you will have to loosen it and 'move it out the way'
its best to move all the pipes and cables that are above the clutch housing out the way too
now for the tricky bit, accessing the bolts on the starter motor is a real pain. top 2 are ok-ish but the one underneath is a real a** to get at. once they are all loose you should be able to pull the motor out with a bit of wriggling and holding the intake manifold out the way.
refitting is obviously the reversal but just remember where things went before you took them off!
total time should be around an hour, or 2 max
hope this is any use to you Gaz, and anybody else that needs this info for that matter.
