Temperature warning light!?

Okay, just replaced the thermostat and sensor on my 2000 GTV 2.0

The temp is now more stable, climbs faster, but shows the rad is shot!

However, the red warning light on the temp guage keeps blinking at me. It is clearly an electrical fault, it flickers on, then off etc. constantly irrespective of temperature. I thought the sensor was shot, but clearly not as the old sensor did the same.

Anyone got any experience of this issue, or any ideas. I'm guessing a cracked wire to earth somewhere but I have no idea where to start looking!
