GTV Rev Surging After Clutch Change

I've recently bought a GTV 2.0TS and have been having a bit of a nightmare!

After a couple of weeks happy driving the clutch went with no prior warning. The car has now been in the garage for 3 weeks with complications due to cross threaded bolts in the engine causing problems.

Yesterday she was finally being put back together ready to come home but then I got a call from the mechanic saying that now when the revs hit 2000 they just fly up to max and he has no idea why. He also said there's a bit of vibration in the clutch before it engages, whether this is a seperate problem I don't know.

He seems a bit out of ideas and I'm really desperate to get my car back! Any help would be great.

Re: GTV Rev Surging After Clutch Change

hi, your mec is useless, and scewed your car up,hold him resposible.
to cure rev surging, do a ecu reset , remove battrey lead for 45 mins
then turn key to mar for 10 sec then stop for 10 sec ,then start
engine and leave to tick over for 10 mins, dont touch accelarator
then enjoy, if this does not cure ,remove throttle body and spray
loads and loads of carb cleaner in and around throttle body, donot
rub with a cloth or anything else not even your finger, only spray.
if this doesnt cure let me no ,as i have lots of experiance with gtv,
as i own one ,it a good idea to get your hand dirty as it saves
loads of money, and all mec are useless inc alfa dealers.

Re: GTV Rev Surging After Clutch Change

Cheers for that.

When I phoned the mech to tell him he said he'd got rid of the surging by taking the battery off and putting it back on but says it's still idling too high. He tried the instructions I gave him but reckoned they didn't work. He says he's spoken to an electrics guy he knows who has given him similar instructions but told him to leave the battery off all weekend, so he's going to try it on Monday morning. Don't know if this will do anything, everything I've read on here seems to say after 45 mins the settings will be forgot.

Oh well, fingers crossed.....
