Did you put the tension springs on the right way round?
If they aren't on right they push the caliper slightly to one side which slowly drives the piston back in the caliper, then the pedal needs to be pumped to get the pads back on the disc. Did this once when replacing pads! Bloody scary to get to the end of the drive and find I had no brakes at all! The tension springs should be a tight fit, they shouldn't just ease on. My moneys on that!
