Re: gtv cam locking variator help pls

Have a look here Fiat Parts and Alfa Romeo Parts from Shop4Parts

They sell everything that you need.

You are correct if you remove the head, you need to remove and replace the cambelt and tensioners as well as the balance belt and tensioner if your engine is a 2 litre. The same with the variator.

EB spares, Alfashop and Alternative Auto's also sell the parts if you shop around you should be able to get the cheapest quote. Your motor factors may also be able to help with belts and gaskets.

There are quite a few people on here with experience of TS engines who will be able to help when you come to do the job.

You will never be cool driving a Vauxhall.

Re: gtv cam locking variator help pls

I did the variator and belts on mine last week. It was a simple enough job really. Spent more time waiting for parts to arrive than it took me to do it. The story's here, and the thread contains links to useful (and more complete) info:

I think you'll need new head bolts as well, as it's not permissible to refit the old ones. Could be wrong with this though...

£37 for the gasket set seems pretty cheap, so if it's the right one go for it!

With the level of strip-down you're doing, you won't need the cam locks until you're re-assembling it. Just find approx TDC position (as described in the cam variator guide) and get stripping (the engine). When you've got the head off, take the opportunity to make a mark for TDC - that'll save a lot of squinting at a screwdriver bobbing up and down

Good luck with it!
