Hmmm HELP!!! Rough idle issues.

Hi All...

New to the site and a first time Alfa buyer.

I have come across an issue, which i am a bit worried about but have been told its normal. But i would like the experts opinions.

Well, i have started to notice a rough idle or you could say the car idles very low when the car is HOT! The car idles fine to start with but then as the car gets hotter and standing still in traffic, my GTV idles a bit rough. So much so, that my whole car feels like it is shaking. It gets slightly worse when the fan comes on.

My GTV its selsf has covered about 70,000miles and had it cambelt changed at around 56,000 also had a piston replaced. All this was done by approved Alfa dealers.

Anyones help or input would be great.

Look forward to everyones replies.

Re: HELP!!! Rough idle issues.

Look for splits/cracks in the air intake pipes, particularly the one that goes into the throttle body. Best to start with the easy things first.

Re: HELP!!! Rough idle issues.

Hi Rob...

Thanks for the advice. i checked but couldnt see any caracks or splits in the pipes that were visable to me. Any other ideas. Its quite wierd as my car has started to be a bit hesitant when keep the accelaration at around 2500-3000rpm while driving. It seems quite jerky, but its not extremly jerky but i can tell... Hope that makes sense.

Re: HELP!!! Rough idle issues.

Do a Thread search on here for " MAF ", ( Mass Airflow Sensor. ) There is loads of info about it on here and I think even some piccies. It's an easy thing to check, just as well as it is known to be a tad troublesome !

The quick check is to disconnect it and if that improves your engine running then you have your problem.

30 minutes spent on a search here will help you no end.

Good Luck.

Re: HELP!!! Rough idle issues.

Plenty of possibilities!
my V6 had a strange jerkiness at ~3000 revs with the power good after that - was due to a poor battery.
