Leaking steering fluid - went to Advance Pitstop???

The steering on my GTV wouldn't move one evening when i came back to it after work and it was making a weird noise too. I got out of the car and saw all oil on the ground. I checked the steering oil and it had emptied fully. I got some steering oil and when i filled it up again just to get me home it all leaked out again. I had a look myself and there are no problems with the tubes on the end so i brought it to advance who told me I had a steering crack??? and that it would cost a lot of money to fix. Has anyone come across this before??

Re: Leaking steering fluid - went to Advance Pitstop???

My 24v GTV lost all its steering fluid when a seal in the rack failed, Alfa do not do a seal kit and I was quoted 1250 pounds for a replacement steering rack. I stripped the rack out and found a small seal had gone which a local seal specialist had in stock for abou 50p!

I'd say try this if you had a bit of an annoying drip from the PAS system but if the fluid has run out at the rate you describe I think you have a badly failed seal & this won't work - I've been there & got the tshirt!
