Re: can anyone help me with the hood on my spider??
Mine's a 96 manual hood, so should be the same. Here goes:
You will need to be out of the car!!
Don't attempt this is if the weather's cold and the car's been left out - the rear windows are brittle and will break! Trust me I've done it!
Engine off, ignition off, handbrake on.
Driver's door open.
Push the hood compartment and rear lock buttons (behind the driver's seat) Should be two loud clicks.
Loosen the headrail lever on the driver's side.
Unattach the velcro on the vertical pillar behind the seat.
Go round the car - passenger door open, loosen the headrail lever and the velcro as previous.
Still outside the car on the passenger side, get hold of the hood lower rail below the rear window and lift up the hood with your left hand. This gets it out of the way, so you can then open up the hood compartment with your right hand. The lid will hold itself open.
Let the back of the roof come back down to it's natural position.
Reach inside the door and grab the headrail with your left hand as close to the mirror as you can and lift it up and back - away from the windscreen.
At the same time, give the back window a firm karate chop in the middle so it folds flatter and guide the hood backwards into the compartment until it's fully in.
Close the headrail lever and tuck in any headlining showing.
Go round to the driver's side and close the headrail lever and tuck in any headlining.
Gently close the cover by pulling it down until it touches the car and gently pushing on the catches. These are on each side just behind the hinged/moving seat belt covers.
Should be job done!
Hope that makes sense - come back to me if you need any more.
Hope the sun stays out for you - beautiful car, top down in the sun...
