OK, did my grille badge and wipers this w/e.
Must say I always find changing wipers or wiper blades to be a PIA and more difficult than they should be. I actually had the Valeo brand of wipers on the car so the AR ones that came from Jamie Porter were slightly different. Previously I'd changed the rubber blades with Halfords ones (couldn't get Bosch blades in the sizes I needed) and the Halfords one squeaked really badly from day one. Even with fresh Rain X they squeaked, so I was hoping for an improvement there. These AR ones are perfect! No squeaks, super smooth and they clean the whole screen 100% perfectly, was a pleasure to use them yesterday! Great price for them from JP I must say.
As for the badge, yes you should definitely remove the grille from the bonnet (simple job) before tackling the badge. It took ages to get the old badge off the grille as the metal plates that grip the badge pins really don't want to let go! You have to be so careful not to wreck the chrome surround of the badge on the front of the grille when trying to prise it out with a screwdriver. I taped up the edges with masking take and had some material between the screwdriver and the grille and even then you have to be careful. Some WD40 and pushing the pins from the back through the mesh grille helps.
I'm really not sure just the adhesive backing of the new badge is strong enough to hold it in place when faced with a pressure washer jet or high speeds, so I managed to get the two small metal plates back on the new badge's pins. Doing that through the mesh at the back is a real mission, I guess cutting the mesh at the back might be the way to go, but removing the whole mesh looked difficult to me so I left it in place. Anyway, now those pins are clamped in place I'm confident my badge won't be flying off and embedding itself into my forehead at 100mph!
If I had to do the job again I'd just buy the whole grille for £50 or whatever rather than the £18 for the badge plus hour sorting it all out. But must say the brand new badge on the front of the car looks great!
