Any DIY paint repair tips for scabby GTV?
Help! The paintwork on my 10 year old TS GTV is starting to get a bit scabby. It looks like small blisters, where the lacquer is starting to break away from the paintwork, exposing the red base coat. It's not too serious yet: a few chips around the drivers' side door lock; a couple of 50pence piece size scabs on the roof and one on the edge of the rear quarter, just by the boot lid. It's gonna get worse if I leave it, so I'm trying to effect a quick and cheap repair.
I'm planning to cut away the loose lacquer, gently feather the edge of the lacquer (careful not to sand through the red base coat) mask off the surrounding area, spray on a few coats of clear lacquer and t-cut the edge of the repair when it's hardened. The chips I'll do with a chip repair kit (clear lacquer)
Is there a better way, short of doing a back to metal respray? Any tips or advice would be appreciated, before I trot down to halfords at the weekend and set about my beloved and otherwise immaculate TS GTV with a spray can and masking tape!
