Has anyone gone from a 156 sports pack to a gtv? which in you opinion is better?? ive got a 156 2.0 at the mo and my parents are saying not to mod it as they will help me get a 2.0 gtv in november for my birthday. ive always wanted the gtv before i got the 156 but liked the 156 alot to and found a good one so went for it. ive got an urge to mod the 156 but now im thinking to wait till november and spend money on then upgrading the gtv if i get it. does it have a good driving position?good handling?and does it go wrong alot?lol. guess im just looking for some reviews from you guys.cheers
I jumped at the chance of having a GTV over a 156 for the pure reason that I don't NEED a practical car, and so I may consider a 156 when I need something more practical.
The driving position is a bit odd IMO, it sometime feels as if you're sitting to high up for what is a low slung sports car. It's something I've got used to though, but it would be nice if I could make the seat lower. Having said that, if you go for leather (which you should
), the seats are very comfy, although not that supportive if you're pushing it through bends. Because I'm quite weedy, I tend to slide about on the seat when pushing on!
The handling is excellent, I've not driven many of it's rivals, but from what I've read the GTV is one of the better front wheel drive cars when it comes to handling. There's so much grip, and the steering feels very neutral, it doesn't have that feeling you get in some FWD cars where the nose pushes wide on corners. I think a lot of that is down to the passive rear steering.
Does it go wrong a lot? Well mine has had plenty wrong with it, but I've never been left stranded. I treat this car with that attitude that it's better to fix things before they go wrong rather than after, so a thourough service should be on the cards, as well as weekly fluid checks and generally looking after the car (ie. I don't accelerate hard until the engines warmed up).
For me though it's the whole vibe of the car that does it for me, it's very Italian in it's style and the way it makes you feel. There are technically better cars out there (Honda Integra anyone?) but this is definitley a car that you buy with the heart and not the head (as has been said many times before!).
