I agree with Volmars that it might be worth looking at the MAF.
Try disconnecting it completely and see if that makes any difference. If yes, then that's your problem and it might need cleaning or replacing.
I'd also get the ECU read, but I certainly wouldn't pay £100 for it. There's a mobile mechanic round my way that can do it for £20 and I'm sure there must be someone near you who can do it for something similar.
My MAF went wonky last year. I took it to a specialist who charged me £95 + VAT to read the fault, said it was probably the MAF and it needed replacing before quoting me another £350 for the job.
I cleaned the MAF myself, and paid my mobile guy £20 to reset the ECU. Never had a problem since.
