I though I'd update you on my sorry saga. As you can see my Spider is no more,
and I had hoped to sort out the insurance quickly with Direct Line, but it was not to be,
I paid 4,900 10 months before the accident for my pre loved Black Lusso TS with Tan interior, and they offered me £3800, not miles away but £1,100 depreciation in 10 months seemed a bit steep to me, almost 25% over the year. So after considerable correspondence on my part (little on theirs) - and no they were not interested in adverts/sale details of similar cars- they made their full and final offer of £3800, ie they never changed their initial view. Although they did say they thought it was worth £4400 but took off £600 for regional variations - Funny I havent seen people flocking to Exeter for the cheap car bonanza! I bought mine in Nottingham!
So I was forced to take them to the Financial Services Ombudsman, unfortunately DL were not quick to respond to them which meant I have had to wait until now for the result. The Ombudsman has recommended £4450 (plus interest), which I have accepted and would have accepted 6 months ago when I had the accident
. I was lucky that this was a second car and I could wait for the money, others might not have had that choice.
So my lesson? before you take out your Alfa insurance find out how much they would pay you if it were a total loss, especially if you use Direct line who appear to use Glasses guide as their basis for valuations.
