Don't be put off doing the jobs you've listed, yourself, they are pretty strightforward. Cam belt and variator are a little more scary and probably worth using a good Independent.
Oils & filter: Just done myself, the bigest problem is that dammed undetray. Once you have that off (you may not have one, many don't), its all quite accesible. A previous owner of mine had cut a suitable hole in the tray so access to the filter was quite easy. Use a good quality synthetic oil, there are plenty of posts on the topic. If it hasn't been serviced regurlarly, consider a flush while you're at it.
Air filter: 5 minutes, provided the nuts come apart on the top. An hour of mucking about and reengineering if they don't.
Plugs: Easy but a bit time consuming due to the number. Once you have the cover off its all quite obvious.
While its in bits, you might want to consider giving the water system a good flush through and some nice fressh anti freeze.
