Thought a slight tap with a hammer would be OK
Er..but it wasn't. The hook assembly on the spider roof required the pivot pin to be re-positioned, so I hit it with a large hammer, the pin went in but I cracked the bit that it went into, (I only hit it gently, honest).
This required a replacement of the complete handle assembly and for my yr 2000 car it proved almost impossible to find. Thank God for Alfashop, Norwich, because they sourced one from goodness knows where and had it fitted in no time.
These guys are amazing to deal with, they are very friendly and helpful, they never gave up looking for the part and kept me informed of progress. I don't think my local main dealer ( Desira ) would have tried so hard to help. There are two main points I want to make here. Take care of the roof handles on your Spider because they are hard to replace, and get yourself a good indie when anything goes wrong.
