Yeah I highly recommend the 20VT mate, absolutely fantastic car.
I would say though don't do what I did, and buy a £1500 one on a whim, look around for a great LE / Plus etc with all the bells and whistles, FSH etc, probably for around £2000 or so.
Mine is fairly faultless but does require a front pad upgrade due to mental screeching and the rear discs need changing... Hmm, that's not really too bad to be honest,
Shop around for a decent one and have a look on Fiat Coupe Club UK - fccuk.org
for some for sale, as well as PistonHeads.com :: Speed Matters
and all that lot.
To be honest, I don't reckon there's much difference in performance between a GTV V6 and a 20VT up to about 90MPH or so, but the 20VT will just keep on pulling and pulling, and I for one have seen 140MPH in mere moments. It really is shocking in performance mate and should see off most other cars on the road.
I recieved 270 miles from just under £50 worth of fuel which equates, as Pud said, to about 26MPG. And that was me driving 24 miles each day to work. And rather spiritedly on the way home.
The thing with the Turbo is that if you want to pull away 'quickly' you haven't got to rag the nuts off the thing to get anywhere like you do with NA cars. You just hear the Turbo spool and whistle up and let it hang for a moment before changing up in gear.
The thing is with the 2 Litre Turbo, is that it is still fundamentally a 2 Litre, and unless you rag the hell out of the girl you should achieve 2 Litre engine MPG. Whereas the GTV V6 is a 3 Litre V6, and will more than likely be getting you between 5-10MPG less than the Coop would at similar speeds. I get better MPG from the Coop than I did my Mondeo 2.0i 16V.
I'm seriously glad I went with the Coop rather than the GTV. My Coop has black leather interior with the colour coded silver raparound cabin trim. It looks spot on and I seriously like it just as much as I would a GTV interior. They are pretty similar.
Obviously comparing the exterior appearance of the GTV to the Coupe is a little redundant whilst on an Alfa forum, but I think that both the front and rear of the Coupe look better than that of the GTV, and the side shot of the car is pretty much on par in attractivness.
I'm 6 foot tall and have MASSIVE amounts of room in the car, and have had passengers in the back with no discomfort whatsoever.
Also, the boot space is really great considering it's not a very big car.
I'm really impressed with the Coop Si and think that you would be too.
You're only problem would be finding a decent one, as the type of people that buy a Fiat Coupe Turbo and the type of people that buy a Alfa GTV V6 are VERY different. In favour of the GTV owners.
Luckily for me I've found a pretty decent one that requires a slight touch of work to make pristine, but mechanically it works great, and there is hardly any Turbo lag whatsoever. The only lag I get is where I don't punch the gas hard enough when changing the gear so get about half a second pause where the revs have dipped down and the Turbo needs to kick back in. But this is a driver defect and not the car,
Good luck with whatever you decide mate, but you will find a better example of a Coupe 20VT than a GTV V6 for the same money I reckon.
Neither car's are overpriced by any means considering the power. But the Coupe is a bit faster to 60MPH, and will pretty much steam ahead after around 100MPH with the Turbo.
