Hey Corporate Punk,
I have the GTV about a year now and it has let me down. However the breakdowns were more about bad luck than problems with the car.
First the Alternator went. Not sure how you can predict that?
I got an Air filter from a Alfa Dealer who just service my car for the MOT and they gave me the wrong size filter !!!? which I believe lead to a series of Air Flow Meter problems. These persisted because machanic's did not diagnose the problem, merely replaced the part.
Since its resolve, it starts first time, every time (3 months now)
I rang previous owners and they reported no reliabilty probelms.
There was other mechanical wear and tear issues that have to be expected from a 6-9 year old car (spring arm), damaged exhaust form speed bumps
, but nothing serious.
If you love to drive the twisties in 2nd, 3rd or 4th.... I cannot recommed a better car.... and the V6 just loves the 4000-7000 rpm range (Opening credits to "The Italian Job" anyone???) and you will find that you rarely use the stereo.. why would you with the sound from that engine!!
FWD..... can be nose head at times but it simply requires a change of driving style.... (James Thompson's WTCC Alfa was FWD and look where he came).
For the money there are very few alternatives.
