So just got back from the garage, bearing in mind that it is my local tyre garage with a basic mechanic doing the work.
Basically the car starts up fine but when I press the accelerator, nothing happens. Its like the press of the peddle isn't getting registered. I would add that when I press the accelrator, the revs does attempt to go up from 1k to maybe 1.1 - 1.2k (i.e. the needle moves by about 1 - 2mm). I thought it maybe the MAF sensor but the problem still remained after disconnecting it so it can't be that.
I never had the a problem with the throttle body before so I won't know if this is the problem but the mechanic said that it is the most likely fault. He said there was nothing on the diagnostics when he plugged the machine in but I see the fuel injection light on the dashboard but that came on when I had problems with my MAF sensor before.
Any ideas? He thinks that it is something electronic because he recons the throttle body isn't controlled by a wire?
I told him if he can't fix the problem, I will get the car towed to the local specialist which is about 20 miles away - bit of pain in the arse but I guess if it needs done, I'll need to just do that.
However, if it can be fixed locally that would be really handy :blah::blah:

Definitely sounds like the throttle control sensor. If yours is a phase 2 or 3 it has a fly by wire throttle control. Search the forum for a fix. [emoji106]
Thanks for the replies guys. Do you happen to have any pictures as to where this wire is located?
I read in the forum that it is under the passanger glove box area (where all the fuses are?) and there was a 9 wire connection that sometimes gets loose and needs to be soldered back on? Its just because the garage told me they can hire an electrician to check the car so I think that would be the first place I'd get them to check and of course they are going to be very familiar with the GTV since they are a jack of all trades.
If that still doesn't solve the problem, I assume that it will be the sensor which I am just going to replace anyway - is there a pictorial guide for this?
And finally if that still doesn't remedy the problem then it will be the throttle body itself?
Appreciate the help guys - minor thing is that the car aerial never raised since I owned the car ever but that is something I'd sort out myself!
I think the 156 has a longer lead from the potentiometer than a GTV but not sure. If you find the potentiometer by the pedal you will see if there is a connector block there or not. While there, check there is no physical problem with the mechanical linkage itself.
CF2 V6 does not have a separate throttle position sensor on the throttle body unlike the CF1.
It's possible to remove the electronics assembly from the side of the throttle body and take it apart to clean the tracks inside.
