New battery???

Hi all,

I've been on holiday for a couple of weeks and have had the GTV tucked up on the drive. When I tried to start it up after I got home the starter motor turned over but too slowly to fire the engine. I figured the battery was low, so I put it on charge overnight using my CTEK smart charger.

Next day I saw the charger had got up to stage 4 and the error lamp had lit up. Reading the manual it says the charger is indicating that the battery will no longer hold a charge as well and may need replacing. I then unplugged the charger and tried to start the car. It did start but it still struggled to turn over.

So it looks like I will be needing a new battery. Do you have any advice on which one to buy, what capacity am I looking for? And as I will not be using the GTV as regularly over the winter would a bigger capacity be better?

Many thanks
Stephen

i only do around 4000 miles a year and find that its not enough for the battery to be kept fully charged through lack of use and through the cold winter,, I pretty much budget for a battery every 2 years, Had this one on the car for 18m and it is over spec and is around max size that will fit to the tray while also fitting under rear shelf speakers

50 pound delivered its easier to replace than carry on with weak failing battery

If it all seems under control..............your not going fast enough !!

Thanks for your reply. I never thought of looking on eBay for a battery!

I presumed I would be better off buying a branded battery, or are these ones off eBay just as good?

And is 096 the correct size for the GTV? The one in the car atm is smaller than the one in the advert

Battery has been ordered and arriving this week!
Fitting it, is it as simple as just undoing the cables from the old one and attaching the new one?

Remove negative before positive, then fit positive before negative.

OK thank you antonius! No worries about that, got an aftermarket head unit. Just thought, will changing the battery set the alarm off?

Why not use a trickle charger? You can get solar powered ones if you dont have access to a power supply
