Frustrating day

After fitting my new front pipes yesterday I thought I was on a roll. So went out to fit a new outer cv boot. Should of known it was gonna be one of those days when I couldn't find my 36mm socket. £12.99 later(thanx halfrauds) I set to and removed the drive shaft only to find that the boot kit I'd gotten from eurocarparts was wrong. That's the second wrong part from them( I have learned my lesson). Also snapped a brake pipe, that's another job on the list. Hopefully get the right boot from my local dealers in the morning

Sounds par for the course. Had to take my driveshaft off twice when replacing the boots as the driveshaft seal started leaking gearbox oil when I disturbed it the first time- probably why you read about disentegrating diffs. I'd also replace the nyloc nuts on the inner boot if you are undoing them and dont make the mistake of trying to use standard nuts and wondering why they strip when you tighten them- You need fine pitch nuts (iirc 1.25mm).

Re the brake pipe again same happened to me I just spliced in a repair section in situ using male & female connectors and it works fine. Make sure you have a decent flaring tool not a cheapo one otherwise you wont get a good flare or seal. I use this one

Ah just saw youre only replacing the outer boot but Ill leave my comments on in case it helps anyone else

Better day today, got a genuine cv boot. Reassembled in no time and fitted. Next up a new pair of genuine steering rack boots. Lastly made up new brake pipe and bled brakes.
Now need to get it booked in for its MOT. Fingers crossed

Perfect end to that pain in the a*se day, MOT passed with no advisories.
Not bad for a 16 year old car with 116000 miles on it

Glads she's holding up well. You're clearly looking after her in ways I couldn't.

Thanks, she's doing great. Brings a smile to my face every time I use her and that's everyday.
Have recently thought about getting a GTV cup. Not sure what to do
