DevonDan & mave, thanks for your responses. Does sound like it is the MAF. Have now read most of the earlier threads on this. Maybe it got contaminated as a result of the Service a week or so beforehand when the filter(s) were changed.
Will check back with the service garage, before disconnecting and trying to clean MAF. Do not want to confuse diagnostic indications by inducing ECU alerts with disconnecting MAF and then getting into resets and re-learning issues if I can get the garage to sort it first.
Looks like there are many options/sources for getting replacement MAFs. Seem to vary widely from < £40 upto > £200 tho, but I suppose you "pay your money and take your chance" with respect to the quality/reliability of the hardware supply. Not sure that I would trust the ebay ones, even tho they do "say" they are Bosch units???
