Weird electrical fault!?

Hi

I today decided to spend the day looking at why my 2001 Spider as it locks and unlocks when I go to lock it.( both off the fob or with the key in both doors).

I've taken off the drivers door card and disconnected the Bowden cable. For some unknown reason the speedo, rev counter, odometer don't work. Also of the cluster in the middle, the fuel guage and temperature guage have also stopped working. The clock however is still working!!! Also the front windows won't operate with the switches on the doors but do go up and down with the power hood.

I am confused - Any ideas appreciated

Thanks in Advance

You have problaby blown a fuse.
Fuse F15 (10A) is for the instrument panel, rear fog light and power windows.

Did you fix your locks though? My Spider does exactly the same thing except the passenger door lock does nothing.

Cheers Henrik - Spot on - all sported

Spiderman2 - I've got both the door cards off. I will continue to read here and play. I think at the moment it's down to a microswitch in the door(on the lock). When you manually push the button down it does not operate the locks in both doors. I spoke to an auto electrician last night who described as others do here how it works. I will let you know when it is all sorted - hopefully soon.

Cheers to both of you for your replies

Do they not also do that if it thinks the bonnets open?

All sorted - My initial problem was doors unlocking straight away when you tried to lock with the remote. This did the same when you pushed down the "button" on the passenger door. I noticed that this did not happen with the drivers door.

The problem was that the drivers door lock mechanism was partly seized. The actuator/solenoid in the door could not move it. It is now all greased up and back together and working perfectly. For icing on the cake the airbag light had a wobbly and turned on and had to be reset. All rather pleasing to have got to the bottom of it all. Hardest part was getting the lock out of the door!
