The desire for a convertable (in January!) has bitten me again. Ive seen a Spider on the auto trader from an alfa specialist and was thinking about swapping for my gtv. Both models are 2.0
96,000 miles, big service just done inc variators, belts etc
Red with black leather
FSH, warranty, Mot etc
71,000 miles (new engine at 60,000)
Black with red leather
FSH, Mot, Tax
I know that the Spider generally is worth more than the Gtv, but with comparing the spec, and considering the time of year, what do you reckon I should aim for as the "cost to change"?
Also, what are the advantages/disadvantages on the spider compared to the Gtv
They will offer bottom book for your GTV ~£2k
and expect a difference of ~£1800 for the Spider against it. Not great I know.
What's the chance of you selling the GTV privately and raising the cash that way
You should get around £3000 for the GTV. That's the best way
The only realy difference I found between the GTV and Spider is the structural rigidity or flex of the body. The Spider can shake and flex more than the GTV. Performance is very similar, but the driving experience is very different. The Spider you can hear and feel everything, the GTV is more refined and subdued.
Practically, I never take my Spider out in winter, but only because it's a fun car. When I have been out in the cold, the heating is great and my roof is 100% water tight - so no issues with rain or heavy road spray.
Space is an issue in the Spider. No back seats means the boot, parcel shelf and passenger seat is used to take a load of gear.
I opted for the manual roof also. Less to worry about and easy to use. I got caught out in a heavy shower in a guys 2001 Spider (with powered roof) a few years ago and we got soaked when the roof decided not to work automatically.
My Spider is coming up for sale in Spring and I'd be looking around the £4.2-4.4k mark, so the garage is asking bang on price for theirs.
Hope that helps
Oh, there's a Spider buyer guide on here too....
