GTV gearbox 1998

Hi guys,

I have a 1998, 2.0 GTV with a problematic gearbox. I also have a 2001, 156 2.0 TS, which has been completely stripped owing to engine failure. Snapped valve!!

Question is .... do they have the same gearbox? Am wanting to replace the GTV 'box as second gear is almost unobtainable.

TIA

Neil

Not all gear linkages are the same, I believe the CF1 Twin sparks had a rod actuated gear selector, whereas the 156 probably had a cable setup.

I dont know if they can be swapped over so that a gearbox with a rod linkage can have a cable one instead, but i doubt it.

I'm not sure if this applies to all 156 gearboxes, but some at least have the clutch slave inside the bell housing.

Further :

Gear ratios appear to be identical but the differential has a very slight difference ( 156 : 3.563, GTV 3.562 ).

It seems to make very little difference to the final drive ratio. Top speed will be a tiny bit lower, acceleration slightly faster, fuel consumption slightly worse. I think I've got that the right way round!
