V6 cooling

I know.
There are many threads about the cooling fans but search ax I might I can't find an answer.
I have a phase 2 cf3 with twin fans. What I would like to know is how they are supposed to operate.
Only one fan kicks in on mine at just over an indicated 90. Are they supposed to work in tandem or does the other kick in at a higher temperature or with the air con? Also they don't run on after the car is switched off?
Is there something wrong here, as I suspect, or is it me?
Thanks guys
Tim

these fans do NOT work on the over run at all engine off and so are the fans

in terms of second fan i believe its down to A/C and the other singe fan you only ever see working is for water cooling

I assume your car is a 3.0 V6 24V from after October 2000
The two fans do run at the same time. See the attached wiring diagram.
If only one fan kick in when the water temperature is too high or the A/C needs cooling, either the fuse or the resistor for the fan not working is broken.

There is only one relay (I99) to enable the fans at slow speed and there is two relays (I100a and I100b) to enable the fans at high speed
Furthermore the fans will not run after you disable the ignition.

Thanks Henrik
That's a great help.
Do the fans come on low first and then go to high if the temp rises further?
Cheers

Yes, the fans will start at 1st (slow) speed and shift to 2nd (high) speed if the temperature increases further.
If my memory is correct the 1st speed should be enabled at approx. 92C and 2nd speed should be enabled at approx. 98C

The fans is also enbled depending on the pressure in the A/C system, 1st speed should be enabled at approx. 15 bar and 2nd speed should be enabled at approx. 20 bar

You've been a great help.
Upon further investigation one of the resistors has a failed joint which would explain why one fan is not working and also tells me that the slow speed circuit is working. As for the high speed setting I hope I don't have to find out! Even with only one fan the temperature is been brought back down which is good news as well.
Cheers
