That's what I was thinking.....but actually there's only a short amount of movement(especially with bump stops fitted!) so I think if the 'tube' is made on the 'tight side' then they'd clear ok.

You need you 'yump' your GTVs more often Clive!

I agree though - I suspect the taper was cheaper to make is it can be pressed - for low volume numbers that isn't going to be a factor.

Don't worry, the uneven country roads around here put the cars hard on their bump stops, or tyres into arches if they're not fitted, so full travel quite easily achieved without having to find a hump back bridge!

A quick update to this as I'm intending to get back to work on my rear suspension currently sat in bits in the garage post holiday.

Steve at Alternative Autos can't get any as stock appears to have dried up completely with no idea on when/if a new batch will be made. I gave EB Spares a ring (thanks GazzaF1) and they are actually having them made (from stainless) now with an estimated availability date of circa 2 weeks, if you want some I'd recommend giving them a call soonish as there appears to be a waiting list for them.

Pretty relieved to be honest as mine are literally dust.

That is great news and being in stainless they'll last longer than the car. LoL. I think EB spares will be getting a lot of enquiry's.

Had a call from EB Spares this afternoon about these, they have just got the initial batch of 30 in and they are available to buy.

I won't mention price in this thread but I was pleasantly surprised as I thought they'd be a bit more. Think a few people have let them down so if you haven't got your name down you may be lucky, next batch won't be for a while by the sounds of it.

Think the strut tops are being looked at next for re manufacture but it sounds as if no promises due to the make up of the component. Good news though that companies like this are starting to remake (and take the financial risk) "stuff" for the 916

Took delivery of the EB spares Stainless flower pots this morning,

Fantastic quality, consistent with the other stainless parts from EB spares.

Looking forward to refurbishing the rear end, big stack of new, powdercoated and stainless parts.

Realise I'm a bit late on this thread, but see that other outfits are now getting onto the bandwagon for this part: Staircases - Luffman Engineering Ltd

Hope this is useful (particularly if EB Spares are short of stock at any stage ), best, Matt

Don't be put off by the 'staircases' wording in the link (goes through to right page)...
