CF3 Exhaust

Hello people recently acquired a lovely Twinspark. -anyone out there tried to replace the silencer/rear cat section on a CF3 engine? Part seems to be not readily available. Contacted a few specialists and they said never had a call for that part! Cat and pipe OK its the small rear silencer that is on the way out. Any advice on a work around gratefully received? (its Item 4 on enclosed)

Cheers

Martyn

Is it just the silencer that is rusty/blowing, but the cat part is OK?

Hi Martyn, I have a Phase 2 CF3 Spider and I have replaced the silencer on that section 4 with a low restriction Lukey Sports unit then split into two pipes that removed everything from the Lukey to the tail pipes. I found she crackled and popped beautifully on trailing throttle BUT the noise was headache inducing at speed. I've since put a 300mm hotdog near each tip and for me it's much more liveable. I do have a YouTube vid titled 'Storms Bark' that gives you a glimpse of what's under her and how she sounds.

I can confirm that that section 4 is no longer available. I managed to get hold of an OE one unused but secondhand when I replaced mine a year or so ago.

Thanks for the feedback guys -sorry for delayed reply but AO password issues couldn't get on from mobile over the weekend.
Cannot understand why the part not available - surely every CF3 owner will have an issue with this silencer at some point? Ideal solution would be cut the pipe and spigot fit and clamp a replacement silencer.

If the cat part on yours is OK then I would just weld in a replacement silencer, or straight pipe if you prefer. Quick & easy job, I do stuff like this all the time.

Seems crazy that part not available - a lot of cf3 cars around and a lot will be in need of that silencer replaced...

Half the parts on the car are no longer supplied.... I don't think needs of the owner come in to Alfa's decision making on whether to continue supplying a spare part!

Thanks Nigel.
There's quite a few on eBay for around 160-200 claiming to be OE quality. I was wondering if they are any good too. I've also seen this...

Does anyone know if this will fit a GTV? Looks the same.

I have the silencer section only of this part available for a CF3 if any use to anyone? It is in vgc as I only had it fitted fairly recently and it was a new old stock OEM exhaust section.I had a stainless system fitted a couple of weeks ago and the workshop cut it betweem the cat and the silencer to join their system to.
It would therefore need joining to your existing cat section by whatever means...

I had the same done to my GTV but to be honest I am regretting it now... if anything goes wrong the whole system including the cat is all in one piece. I've decided I want quad tailpipes instead of twin and will probably have to replace the whole lot. How much are you after for the silencer and where was it cut off?

Hi Nelly. Sorry for the delay in my reply.Yes you have a point about if anything goes wrong, however the cat is to all intents and purposes new on mine, as it was as I say a new old stock section I had fitted so wouldn't anticipate any problems with it particularly with the low mileage I do.
It was cut halfway (or thereabouts) between the cat and the silencer, so there is a decent length of pipe to attach to.
I will sell that section for 25 incl.postage, how does that sound?

Thanks but I've had a good look at mine and i think at some point it will be the cat that is really going to need replacing so I'm going to leave it as it is and start saving for an Alfaholics sports cat and wizard or ragazzon exhaust.
