Moaning Ph1 GTV ... (Electrical) Mind of its own

After finally sorting the crank sensor issue (thanks to all those who provided advice) a new problem has developed and so the love-hate Alfa relationship continues to go from strength-to-strength!

Sometimes, when the key is put in the ignition and turned, all the electrics come on fine, and it starts as normal. However, when it seemingly feels like it, it is non-responsive. That it to say, sometimes when inserting the key and turning it, NO lights or electrics come on whatsoever. Leave it for 5 mins and try again and it works perfectly. All fuses look fine.

Anyone else had this inconsistent problem?
Views appreciated as ever.

Are ALL the ignition controlled electrics affected or just some of them?

Wipers/Washers
Indicators
Instrument panel ( seat belt warning light )
Heated rear window
Headlights
Heater fan
Electric windows

Can you open the fuel cap/boot with the key at 'MAR'?

It sounds like there may be an issue with the ignition barrel or the wires connected to it. Next time it happens (if the moment is right) undo the seven screws holding the steering column shroud together and remove, there you will see the two connectors to the ignition barrel. It should be held in place with a cable tie (sounds like a bodge job but they are all like that!) There are two connectors, one for ignition and starting, the other for the other electrical stuff, lights, wipers etc etc get a circuit tester on there to see if there is 12v going out as well as in.

Following further inspection, issue RESOLVED!
It was caused by a lose battery connection to the negative (the nut appears to have worked slightly lose causing the connection to move up and down). Thankfully simple and inexpensive to resolve!
Thanks for your input guys.
