Depends on what country you are..... If you are in the UK a donor engine would be your best bet. If you are somewhere else like me, then i would recommend buying a bottom end from the UK (cheaper), there are some members in here that could help you out!

Did you have any other symptoms? like a knock or suspicious sounds prior to this?

Anyway sorry to hear your troubles

M25 means you're probably in the South East somewhere. Depending on how happy you are with spanners, give Autolusso a call to either sort the whole thing or to supply/fit a part/full used/reconditioned engine.

Autolusso - Alfa Romeo Specialist | Alfa Romeo Servicing, Repairs and Modifications

They're based near J11 of the M1.

As Pkr said, either get a reconditioned engine from Autolusso or a.n.other engine supplier, or take a risk that someone is selling one and plonk that in.

Edit - sorry to hear about the engine, sad times

Alfaman in north london did me a reconditioned block and swapped over my perfectly ok head about 2008. Wasn't too expensive, considering the cost of having an unknown engine replacement shipped to where i was living at the time.

Although this is not 'common' in the same way as the cam belt failure or the V6 water pump issue, it is far from unknown. There is a brief write up on the Alfisti.net web site that suggests the small ends have an inherent weakness. Sorry to hear of your troubles, the good news is there are plenty of 2nd hand engines about. Good luck.

OK, first of two posts for the OP. This post is for a business other than Autolusso who I have seen offer reconditioned engines:

Italia Auto Parts
unit 19
Anglesea Business park,
Hednesford,
WS12 1NR

And the second - the link below is to a thred where a fella seems to be getting rid of his Gtv. It has no tax or Mot but maybe you could make him an offer for the engine from his motor, or restore the whole car.
