Throttle cable snapped and can't find replacement - help!

My 99 P2 GTV's throttle cable snapped - AA man pulled it out from the throttle body end and it was snapped at the other

What I thought would be a simple fix is turing into a nightmare as according to the dealer there are no throttle cables left. I've tried Alfa Workshop and EB spares and they don't have anything.

Does anyone have any ideas?

*edit - I thought there was an Australian one on eBay but after looking at it again it's from the previous model

Might be worth a trawl of some classic car forums to try and find someone who can make up custom cables.

It's also possible that your local Cycle/Motor Cycle Repair man could make one for you, I have heard of people doing this but never had to myself. ( Crossing fingers now ! )

Thanks everybody I'm trying to get one from a breakers but it's not very easy.

Does anybody know the dimensions of the cable or part number I need? Or will I have to remove the broken one and send it to the cable manufacturer in order to get one made up?

Any good cycle shop should sell the inner cables then you just have to fit nipples to both ends works on snapped bonnet release,s so should work on throttle cables i think.

The same thing happened to me on the way to get her tested!
It was really hard for my mechanic (an Alfa specialist) to find one and according to him they don't make them any more for the GTV.
He got one for a 155 instead hoping it would be the same length but it was to long so he had to make a bracket to give the cable a more indirect route and in effect shortning it. Apparently it was a pig of a job as it is right at the back of the engine.

On the plus side he should be able to adjust it to give you better throttle response as well, my fella did it for me and it made a huge difference, just don't go to crazy!

Hope this helped.
