Sorry, another "what's it worth?" thread
Sadly it's time to sell the GTV to raise money for other projects. It seems impossible to determine the correct asking price as some cars are asking strong money and others very little. So some advice please...
It's a 2001 UK V6 with 80-something thousand miles on the clock. I'm second owner and have owned for 10 years. It's in very good condition but I know not perfect. Paintwork is very shiny Meteor Grey, with red Momo leather interior but there are a few scars inside and out. At meetings the car stands out amongst other GTVs and GTAs as better condition.
Most of the desirable mods have been done. It's got Q2, GTA clutch, BMC CDA, Alfaholics/ Ragazzon stainless steel exhaust (downpipes onwards), Angel Tuning remap, Novitec suspension, Powerflex bushes, strut race, Autodelta bodykit, red.dot discs, Ferrodo pads, Autolusso refurbished calipers, GTA wheels with new high-quality branded tyres, HID headlights, decent stereo and speakers with Bluetooth, DAB, USB, Total Closure on the Meta alarm.
Phew, that's quite a list, and reminds me how much money I've spent on the car.
So I'm going to take some high quality photos and maybe a video too. I've sold on eBay before but don't want to sell my GTV there, at least not as first option. I'm going to advertise on Pistonheads.
At present the car has a GTV number plate. I don't think that will add much to the sale price but should make it easier to sell. I expect I could realise about £400 got the plate. Do I sell with or without the plate? And the ten-million dollar (I wish) question is how much do I ask and expect to get?

the most common question you're likely to get is when were the cambelt and associated parts last changed. if it was done a while ago people will price in the cost of having it done given many recommend a 4 year ish interval between changes. If it has little MOT left then this will affect the price you will be able to get - i'd put 12 months MOT on it to help it sell. GTV plates are available from the dvla for £250ish i seem to recall and with the costs of retaining plates there's probably little value in removing it - plus it's another selling point for the car. if anything needs doing soon e,g, tyres then this was also affect values.

I would put it on for £2,999 and see what you get. But as you said prices are all over the place, however I have noticed the competitively priced ones get snapped up pretty quick

Richard - flabbergasted - Thought you were keeping it forever, that will be the end of an era. Who else is still here in a GTV from Sportsalfa? I've never seen it but it must be one of the most enthusiastically kept GTVs left so someone in the know should pay you top money for it ... whatever that is.
What next?

Do you need a quick sale? Or are you able to sit on it and wait for the right buyer? Does the car owe you anything?
You've also got to realise that even though the mods youve done may be an improvement in your eyes (and many others I might add) that these don't always add value to a car.
With all the boxes ticked (full service, 12 months mot etc.) I would hope a v6 gtv with that sort of spec could fetch more than £3k to the right buyer.
Set your sights high

There are a number of 'Buy it now' options on Ebay around £2,000.00 so you need to sell it on the mods/upgrades to stand out from the crowd.

To get all the money, it needs to look good. You mention a few scars, have you thought of getting a smart repair chap quote to fix them up?
The tidier it looks, the more you'll get.

Thanks all for the advice so far.
Part of the problem is that the paintwork is so shiny thanks to Zaino polishes that it shows up the imperfections such as door dings more. I'm in no great hurry to sell and the MOT has now 360 days to run. I may get a quote on smart-repairs but I always think the reality is that any money spent is not recouped at sale. I realise that is the case with the modifications too with the possible exception of the Q2 and GTA clutch kit. I'll post a link to the ad here later. Still need to clean interior to my demanding specifications and the engine bay before I list for sale.
Simon - yes, it's sad but I'm excited about new projects so it will be worth it I hope. I think there will only be you and Davor from the old forum that I know of. As you know the car is in the best possible exterior colour

Mine charges £25 + vat per panel trade (probably £35 private) but some try & charge per dent which can work out very expensive. Find a good one & try to have a cash deal, ask the local garages/showrooms who they use?

Good luck with the sale. Always sad that well looked after cars in great condition with lots upgrades only fetch a relatively small amount more than so the heaps of junk out there of similar age and mileage

Thought I would show off a few of the pictures I took today. Hoping to get the ad listed on Pistonheads over the weekend.

Just spotted it too,
Priced about right for the amount you have done to it and gives you a little wriggle room to come down on if needs be.
Good Luck, nice car.

She's gone! Had a lot of interest in the car. Over a dozen contacts. It went to the second person to view and I had to let down a previously arranged viewing (sorry Richard). Price was more than the doom-merchants would have predicted considering Cambelt overdue - all interested parties and the buyer knew. She really was a beauty as all who saw over the years would testify.
Inevitably I feel pretty sad after 9 glorious years but all good things have to come to an end eventually. My 3 year old cried and howled as the car drove away.
I have a few parts to sell now. I have front calipers ready to be refurbished - hopefully these will go to Fraser if we can sort out an agreeable price. Theres a set of rears too. I also have an immaculate set of 17" teledials (2 half-decent tyres, 2 only legal). There is the cat section for CF3. Autodelta unsilenced quad dtm rear exhaust section. There is an original set of springs and dampers with about 30k miles use, removed from car 8 years ago. I have a full set of 5 ring bound original workshop manuals. There's a set of GTA inlet cams which I bought from Autodelta for £275 and never fitted. And of course "J4 GTV" on retention.
Any interest pm me, but be patient.
I won't be able to stop myself returning here from time to time but in the meantime happy motoring to all, especially SimonT, Davor, Mike White.

That's a point, my 5 yr old would never forgive me if I let the GTV go. His life is filled with forever asking how it compares with every other car on the road & informing his mates' parents that his Dad's car is faster than theirs!
All the best Richard. I'm intrigued to know what is to come. Maser?

Hi Richard
Do your workshop manuals cover the 2.0 V6 TB also?
If so, please PM me with a price.
Cheers, Baggers.

That's great news Ned. I'm glad you got the business. I only wish I had come to you earlier. I feel you are proficient and expert mechanics, plus I felt you gave me sound advice which was in my best interest rather than your best business interest.
Dan seemed thrilled with the car and I hope continues to be so.
