Carbon Fibre Bonnet

Interesting. Prohibitively expensive though.

Without the vent obviously.

It looks good on the pics. Not keen when they are on a white or anything coloured.

Ahh, the perfect solution to my gas struts not always working properly

And I don't think the vent is optional. Which is a shame. I'd consider it otherwise. If I happened to get in a front end smash or something. Wreckers want $800 for a bonnet so 800gbp all of a sudden isn't so bad to me.

I've just got the new issue of CAR. There's an article on Mansory. They do a carbon fibre weave with a copper wire in it so it glints.

I like the idea, but I think it would be a cop magnet, even on an Alfa. (cops don't seem to give us too much hassle).

If you had this on a Japanese import you wouldn't leave your street without a defect..

Looks like it belongs in the "Barry Boys and Bogans" parts and accessories catalogue.

I like the carbon look but only on BLACK cars, it reminds me of the F575 with that bonnet vent.

Too many chavs spray their bonnets black to give the impression of carbon fibre, I find it annoying that a material such as carbon was originally made for a purpose for being strong and lightweight but now it's just too commercial, Thank god you don't get these little ****es using kevlar panels on their car for the modded look!

very very unique and lightweight.

Something cannot be very, very unique. Either it is unique or it is not!

You can but then what would be the point of the carbon fibre right? Right? lol

Funny how when it's exotica they can paint over the carbon because everyone knows it's there. Put it on a Honda or some crap, and it's gotta be paraded around. All because it's an econobox attempting to be something it's not...

Item is actually too cheap!!! For single ply 2x2 twill fabric, it costs about £40-45/m2, and at 0.3mm thick for 285g/m2, you'll need at least 2-3mm plus sandwich sections to get the stiffness required. I bet they forgot the galvanic issues too..... Love the bow in the weave in the first picture, not! Top tip, only buy carbon fibre products if you have a certificate of conformity (for either fibre or fabric) ensuring what you have - you can pay for **** so easily these days (over half of the composite panels on the Aston DBS are glass fabric with carbon black pigment in resin!!). The general public are so easily fooled by the weave......

I agree, A lot of other chumps use it to pretty up things, I.e. companies that sell ''Full carbon'' panels but infact it's just a GRP panel laid over with a bit of carbon cloth, i admit it'll be strong, but there's still no weight shaved off here!

Spot on actually; for info the GTV bonnet was the largest SMC glass fibre composite part in the world for the automotive market, manufactured by Owens Corning in Belgium (now 3B). It would be quite difficult to lighten it without significant increase in cost.... Had a visit there and got all excited when I spotted the GTV bonnets being manufactured in 2002. The guy showing me around didn't understand!!
