No pressure in clutch pedal

Hi again,

After changing clutch (and brake) fluid it seems like all pressure in the clutch pedal has disappeared. There are lots of threads about this and I know that the clutch slave cylinder is a common problem with GTV:s. I’ll recon though that just changing the fluid and bleeding the systems would not break the cylinder, or would it...? I’ve had the car on axel stands for the winter and the clutch worked perfectly when I left it last autumn.

Any ideas before I order a new slave cylinder....?

Best regards

/Olle

The same thing happened on mine after the gearbox came out and (obviously) the clutch hydraulic system was bled. Unfortunately I had to change the slave cylinder to fix the problem.

Hope that isn't the case with your car, but if it is the good news is that it isn't going to break the bank, or prove particularly difficult.

A slave cylinder costs just £25. Replace it.

Ok, it seems like I’m going to get my self a new slave cylinder then. Still I’m a bit puzzled since I can’t find any leakage. I left the car over night with clean paper under the slave cylinder, but I couldn’t spot any trace of fluid this morning. I couldn’t find any fluid on the floor by the clutch pedal either (where I suppose it would be if the master cylinder had a leak).

Well well, I think I’ll go for the slave and see what happens. Since it probably will brake sooner or later anyhow I suppose it can’t be wrong to have a new in any case...

Tank you for all your inputs...

Hi Olle

It could be that your clutch system is drawing air instead of leaking fluid. You could ask someone to pump the peddle and then check the paper. good luck and let us know the result.

Hmmm, that could be worth a try. I have an automatic brake bleeder though (connected to a compressor) and when I "draw" fluid out from the slave and then close the nipple it seem to be pretty air tight. Thanks for the tip though, I’ll check it out....

Update,

Got my new slave from Alfaworkshop yesterday (ordered and paid it on Monday afternoon, got it delivered in Uppsala, Sweden on Thursday - that is impressive). Just changed it this morning and problem solved - big relief...! Changing it was not quite as easy as I had hoped, since the three bolts holding the slave mount (..?) was quite hard to reach. The main thing is that it worked and now I can finally put my GTV back on the street for the season.

Thanks for all inputs to my questions....

/Olle

Well done Olle, a big sense of satisfaction knowing you solved the problem yourself.
