Great isn't it?

I'm particularly enjoying the envious looks ... not just from drivers of boxes-on-wheels but even from drivers of far less classy looking soft-tops.

Love the sun with the roof down but then again i have my roof down most days whatever the weather!!! And your right about the looks from other drivers. New BMW, MERC's etc that might have a new car but still wont look as good as a 10 year old spider with the roof down.....

I have not had a ragtop for over 10 years and normaly it does not bother me a bit, I pefer the better handling and lighter weight of a tin top.

I was following a golf cab today and it did cross my mind that i would rather be in the golf than my missus's Audi avant

GTV 3.0 V6/Mondeo TDCI RM

I still think hand on heart that the coupe GTV is better to look at, but with in mine that its practically the same car in this weather it would be glorious to take the roof down.

Do the spiders handle and go like a normal GTV out of interest or are they different to drive altogether? I would imagine that they are heavier to keep the chassis rigid etc at a guess?

Alfa Spider TS 2.0

Not driven a GTV so I can't make a direct comparison. All I can report on is that my 2.0TS Spider goes like the proverbial doo-doo off the digger when it's kept about 3500 revs, even when hill climbing.

The main difference compared to most cars I've driven is its slightly "fluid" nature ... due to not having a fixed roof it is slightly less rigid and you do get a feeling of the car flexing slightly on anything other than flat terrain. It's not unpleasant as long as your suspension is in good nick ... I'd say it's akin to a snake moving at high speed over sand dunes!

And the cornering is simply awesome. The more I accelerate round a corner, the tighter it turns. Perfect balance, and I've yet to be able to get it to break away since I had the suspension sorted and Goodyer F1 Eagles fitted.

am loving every minute of it, especially as i know i look like a **** while driving this thing...but who cares indeed......however, i did get caught out 4 days ago by the weather....top down....felt a few drops of rain....thought nothing of it but did clock the looming dark grey above.......and then....the mother of all showers drops down on me before i have time to count to 2......needless to say, i was drenched in the downpour which felt like it was from a brazilian jungle rather than in central europe....got a few towels out at the in laws place and soaked up the water form the upholstery....at least it had a clean

Even coming home the other night at half 9 we still had to put the roof down

Also never driven a GTV and while I'm sure its slightly faster around a track there's probably not much in it on real roads.

I'm going to offend everyone now and say I can't see the point of having a GTV against a Spider If anything the GTV is even less practical... try getting an 8 foot cherry tree in one

I havent driven a GTV but I have driven another performance coupe. When the road is smooth it is fine but when its bumpy there is noticable skuttle shake. Saying this, it still handles fine in my view. On track it might be different when you really are pushing it.

Before my spider i had the soft-top renowed for eating head gaskets, and having seen the light, replaced it with the alfa. I can honestly say its the best car i have ever owned and my personal opinion is the spider and GTV are one of the best looking cars around. And this weather is just a bonus!!
