wipers mist setting
Am I being dumb, or does the spider not have a single action wiper setting for mist - i.e. when you nudge it down and get one wipe just to remove mist? When I nudge the lever down I get two wipes - great - one to remove the mist - one to then smear the now clear windscreen!
While I'm on about wipers...
sometimes my wipers seem good and clear the windscreen fine, most of the time it is like they kind of jump across the screen a bit one way and don't clear the windscreen very well. New wiper blades needed? I don't see why sometimes they would wipe ok...

Re: wipers mist setting
Yeah when I first got my GTV I couldnt understand why they made it so complicated how the wipers come up in position to wipe etc . But play around with it and see what it can do. You may need new blades also.

The two wipes are normal, just one of those Alfa oddities !
Hard to comment on the other problem but wiper rubbers can get hard over time so for about £20 I'd change these first.
There has been a recent Thread on wiper blades, a quick search will take you there and give you a few options of which blades to go for and where to get them from.

Re: wipers mist setting
Here's a fix for noisy wipers, might be your problem, might not, but worth checking...... as its free!
First wet the screen and now turn on the wipers and then turn OFF the ignition when the blades are half way thu their sweep (45 degrees). Now look at the edge of the blade. They should be trailing the arm, i.e. if the blade is going up the screen the edge should be towards the bottom of the screen. If they are, then active the wipers again and stop them on the way down. This time the edge should be pointing at the top of the screen.
If they are not or one of them is NOT then it's being pushed across the screen NOT being pulled and this will give rise to noise.
The cure -Allow wipers to sweep across the screen and when they are at 45 degrees (halfway) switch OFF the ignition. Now remove the blade assembly so that you are left with just the bare arm. Lay this on the screen and check to see if the end of the blades retaining hook lays flat on the screen. If it doesn't then you need to twist the arm so that it does. To do this hold the arm about 1/4 way up from spindle in a pair of grips, protect the arm with a cloth and then using another pair of grips 2/3 the way up apply a rotating motion.
Lay the hook on the screen again and recheck. When satisfied, refit wipers and try again. The blades should then change direction and trail the arm on each sweep.

Re: wipers mist setting
If you are buying new blades go for these:
http://wipex.co.uk/Alfa%20GTV%2094%2098.htm
I baught them after reqading a few threads here and they are good.
2 wipes is normal though. 1st car I've ever seen like this.

Will they fit? It says 1994-1998 - I am 2001.

Re: wipers mist setting
Yes they will. Mine is 2002 so same as yours. The site is wrong somehow and everyone else here who baught them got the same size as me. One guy who baught the the 98-06 send them back as was too short.
No idea why they still haven't fixed their site though.
I've got the upgrade ones, they're good quality and look "neater" than standard.

Re: wipers mist setting
If you look closely, then you will see that when the wipers are one, they do not return all the way to the bottom of the screen, it rests about an inch further up. That is why it needs two wipes, one to put the blades in the "on" position, and one to send it back to normal.

I think this must be a revelation to most GTV owners.
Being an Alfa I just thought it was on of those things.
I'm really suprised that alfa engineers actually spent all that time on this details.
Or is the second wipe just a quick fix to the original problem?

Re: wipers mist setting
I've look at the link, looks like it makes sense to get the upgraded one's for a ew extra quid.
How do they work with the washers though, do you use the original one's or does it come with new ?
Cheers
Al

The new blades will come with the washer jets built in to the blade.

They will give you 2 extra tubings to use but actually you only need to replace one. So no problem there. I't a 5 min job.
Just ensure you only take off the one you need to replace as they are nearly impossible to push back through the original casings. If you look at how your the rubber tubes are attached to your current wipers you'll see what I mean.
Thanks

Look carefully at the position of the wipers in the " OFF " position. Then switch the wipers on and note where the bottom position is, you will see that this is higher on the screen than the " Park " position. The sweep is suited to the windscreen and the Park position is just to make the car look better !

I only just noticed it stopped higher recently too, should have known it was to make the car look better, same as the in built washer nozzles.
Still don't get why it has to do the double swipe, it could start from park, wipe across then return back to park.
