Tyre sizes GTV

Hi - had my car 4 mths and just noticed that one of my tyres is 205/55/16 and the others are 205/50/16. Seeing as the 205/55/16 rubs the inside of the wheel arch on full lock surely this tyre shouldnt have been fitted?

Re: Tyre sizes GTV

GTV tyres are 205/50x16

205/55x16 must make the car sit a bit odd too

aye I would get them changed, if you need a insurance claim it may affect it becuase they are not the manufacturer's specification for 16" wheels.

Re: Tyre sizes GTV

Having all four the wrong size is one thing, but having just one tyre one the wrong size is even worse.

Get it change ASAP or sooner!

What a horror story Feel sorry for you mate.

Get them changed and fast.
I imagine that one wrong tire might have compsomised the wear of the other 3 as well.

No chance you bought from a dealer? If yes hen sue them.

Has the car got the original wheels too or have they come from a 156 or 147?

That would certainly make the handling "interesting".

Should be ok with the right size tyres.

They used 225/45R17, so 205/55R16 would also clear with the right offset wheels. Hopefully you have 225/40R18.

It should do.
Having different size tyres on the same axle is not a safe situation...

Re: Tyre sizes GTV

My first Fiat coupe had different size tyres on the font and back.

It had 225/35 R18 on the front and 245/35 R18 on the back.

And yes the rear ones did rub, but only if the car was loaded and on a rough road.

It came to me with 225/40 R18s on the front and they did rub a lot on the liners.

Re: Tyre sizes GTV

Different sizes front to back isnt neccessairly wrong, indeed it would be common on most higher performance RWD car. As David says though, different sizes on the same axle definitly isn't right...

I'd bet at least 50% of MOT stations wouldn't pic it up though... maybe I'm just cynical...

Re: Tyre sizes GTV

Well mine were the right size when I bought my car, but crap quality!! Cheap budget Fate tyres. Who in their right mind would put cheap tyres on a high performance car like the GTV? I've changed them now though.

Re: Tyre sizes GTV

When we got our 96 Spider it had 205/50/16s on Front and 205/55/16 on the rear ! It was fine until my wife came home with three 205/50/16s and one 205/55/16. The B****** at the garage had swapped them round during the service and lost the "wheel" denied it of course We had to buy another 205/55/16 as the smaller one had very little tread. This was the last business we did with the said dealer.
