Sticky Gearchange

Hello Everyone,

Nice to be on this site as a member now. My question is, what causes a sticky gearchange on my gtv, especially at high revs?

2nd to 3rd is annoying as there is a "sticky" feeling and a delay that just puts you off the experience and makes the gearshifting frustrating. Tried changing the oil but no improvement.

thanks to you all...

Re: Sticky Gearchange

I have a similar problem but only on changing down from 4th to 3rd and 3rd to 2nd at over 3,500 revs, when it is impossible to engage the gears. Otherwise the gearbox is slick up and down the gears as long as I avoid high revs on 4th to 3rd and 3rd to 2nd. Going up through the box poses no problems.

Annoying but not annoying enough, yet, to make me have it taken apart to be looked at.

I wonder if it's basically the same problem? Be interested to know what it is causing it when you find out. My, unprofessional, opinion is that it's something to do with the selectors

Re: Sticky Gearchange

If by sticky you mean its difficult/notchy to get into gear then could be the clutch needs bleeding (so its not disengaging fully). Quick easy job so may as well get it done anyway.

My gearchange has become stiff and no longer self-centres apparently because of lack of lubrication/wear in the unit on the gearbox into which the cables from the lever are connected (does the TS have cables?). It can be removed, dismantled and lubed or just replaced - cost about £80. Can be tricky to refit - must make sure the linkage position has been marked & doesn't get moved.

Re: Sticky Gearchange

Thanks guys. The clutch bleeding option I will try. Not sure how to go about it. did it years ago on my old 33 but unsure on the gtv. Might be in the workshop manual.
