con job

the con rod broke out the engine casing whilst driving my 2nd hand spider home!!!!
i bought it privately, so really have no come backs with regards to the seller.
Now im trying to locate an engine that will go into a p reg Spider. i know it takes the 155 156 146 147... tspark engines but how do i match them to make sure i get the right replacement.???? the engine number from mine reads 16201. does it have to be the same number to match??
any advice would be great.

Despite buying it privately you still have legal remedies.....(Australia wise so there will be a law governing this over your way)

We have the Fair Trading Act which deals with amongst other things merchantable quality and fitness for purpose...
