147gta,156gta,or gt 3.2,
As the title states, i do not know which one to go for in the new year,
i would like to know about people who have 2 children or more has i will have another child in January so i need to get the pram in, and do they all have the same rear seat space.
I have had a 147 gta which i loved but i had a few problems with the car but now i wished i had kept the car now ,
and if my diff went again i would definitely have an uprated one next time around,
also are they more or less the same performance and do they all have the 147 gta's throaty exhaust note, and what would be a reliable mileage for the car as i'm thinking of reliability.
none of the new cars of today float my boat ie st,vxr,r32,
so any help would be appreciated.
thanks Attila.:xmas:

Re: 147gta,156gta,or gt 3.2,
each is somewhat different, and a compromise one way or the other. so it depends upon your priorities.
a few aspects include:
*147GTA: smallest/least bootspace; shorter wheelbase = more 'chuckable' handling; least rear legroom; 3-door = more difficult rearseat access for children/passengers; VDC; not all have leather
*156GTA: decent boot; decent rear legroom; 4-door, so easy rearseat access; no VDC which might be a safety consideration for a 'family'
*V6 GT: hatcback = practical bootspace; same wheelbase/legroom as 156; 3-door = more difficult rearseat access; VDC; lots of mod-cons (subject to country/market and options) incl rear parking sensors, etc; meant to have the most 'comfortable' suspension/ride quality
so, whilst the 156GTA is probably the most practical for a young family, the lack of VDC is a significant blight in my books (comparatively). though of course, the grip is excellent, and you just have to drive safely!
all share a similar growly, throaty engine/intake/exhaust.
mileage is only part of the equation for a quality car. you obviously have to also consider if it's been in any accidents, or has been driven 'hard'; these can be hard to determine. i think a FSH is essential, with reports you can read (not just stamps in the service book). the quality and condition of the tyres can tell a bit of a story: how worn, and are they good quality? cheap tyres suggests a car that is not 'no expense spared'.
i have a V6 GT, but no children. i love it. but i think i'd have a 4-door/wagon if i had children, say a 159 Q4.

GT . 3.2L V6 . Q2 . Kyalami Black - Red . Eibach . KONI . ATP 19" . TOYO . Mille Miglia exhaust

Re: 147gta,156gta,or gt 3.2,
Agree with what Shiny Car said. Nice analysis. The 156 GTA is the most practical because of the 4 doors (but it still looks like a coupe) while the GT just edges it in the "being more modern and having more mod cons" stakes. My order, based on your criteria, would be 156 GTA, GT, 147 GTA. Of course the 156 and 147 will be cheaper as well.
Cheers,
Nigel

Re: 147gta,156gta,or gt 3.2,
Why not go for the sportwagen GTA. I bought myself one and after my wife drove it - after initially looking quizzical - elected herself as the new owner! The grand Espace that we had was immediately sold so I took the cash and went and bought a GTA saloon. So I could remember which one was whose!
We have two children, currently 6 and 9 and it works out very practically. There are the odd occasions - such as holidays to France where we could do with something larger, but the SW has a tow hook, as well as roof bars if we wanted to add a box. Clearly we no longer have any prams - but we definitely do not miss the Espace and would never go back. Both cars are here to stay for a long time - as for our lifestyle they just work. The SW would take a pram quite easily, after all it did take a washing machine the other day, so the load space is reasonably good.
Ours has been perfect - and is the main family car............suits me.

Edward

Re: 147gta,156gta,or gt 3.2,
The 156 4 door will be the best to drive due to the solid shell. The 147 is the beast and the GT is the looker, and, IMHO the best compromise of the lot.

Re: 147gta,156gta,or gt 3.2,
I agree with what has been said but from your kids point of view the 147 GTA will be the best all rounder. Unfortunately the GT's high shoulders restricts their view from the back seat and will tend to be a little claustrophobic. On a long journey they will be fairly twiny and you'll soon tire of "are we there yet?".

Re: 147gta,156gta,or gt 3.2,
Thanks for the replies,
so it would have to be a 156 gta or the gt 3.2,edward i did think of the sport wagon it does look smart for a sw, but would feel better with the saloon at least you have both.
what year did the last 156 gta's get made up to was it 2005,also what year did the gt 3.2 start from, must say they do look nice.
would i not notice much in performance to my old 147 gta.
Attila.

Re: 147gta,156gta,or gt 3.2,
My own personal view is that the 147 GTA is the 'wild child' of the group and I can't imagine pootling about in it.....even with kids in the back. lol.

I have the family solution: go for the 166 3.2 (TI)!

Re: 147gta,156gta,or gt 3.2,
Will , i really do love the 147 GTA and if i was on my own i would have
one at the drop of an hat,but i'm just trying to get the best
compromise between room in the boot and rear seat space,Bodgit do all three cars seat 3 in the rear i did think the 147 only seated 2 in the rear if it is three great mine did seam quite roomy , i will be looking in the new year so i will have to drive the GT 3.2 and 156 GTA.
i hope there as good as the 147 GTA,
Shiny-car i understand where your coming from regarding as the car been treated well and not to concentrate solely on mileage because my GTA only had 23000 miles when my diff put an hole in my gearbox resulting in having fitted new diff and box and a new clutch also the clutch felt great after,
i then found out that my car was the one that was tested in autocar so that explained everything.

Re: 147gta,156gta,or gt 3.2,
selespeed great idea but i think it may be a bit to big, and i also look quite young for my age lol,
No offence to 166 owners BTW.
Green serpent i know what you mean because when i gave my 147 GTA any throttle my daughter who is 9yrs old used to say dad can you stop driving fast even though i was only doing 40 mph, it was the noise from that glorious v6 engine when i gave it some throttle.
kids hey.

Re: 147gta,156gta,or gt 3.2,
I reckon the 147 is way too small for a family with 3 kids, the boot is tiny. The 156 isn't very practical either in the boot side, bigger but akward shape, leg room isn't up to much either really. I agree the GT is the best compromise since it's a hatch with a big boot and is definately no worse in the back than the 147. If you can live with 3 doors it's the one to go for.

Re: 147gta,156gta,or gt 3.2,
ive had to place the baby seat in th GT whilst the 156 is in for service. Access is too difficult. My wife, whilst she loved driving the GT, after the first day kept asking me when can we expect the 156 back. Far to hard. 4 doors makes it soooo much easier.

Re: 147gta,156gta,or gt 3.2,
My 156 GTA is a perfect family car. Spot on in almost all respects. Plenty of room for me and the mrs, 2 kids and loads of camping gear. Can't imagine needing to get much more in.
As for the stability control (or lack thereof) comment, i don't agree. Don't drive like a tit when the kids are in the car and you'll be just fine.

Must admit last thing i want to do is rag the wife up
double-6s do you find your 156 GTA quite planted on the road when
cornering etc, also the boot must be a fair size.

Re: 147gta,156gta,or gt 3.2,
24v...the 147 GTA is three seater same as the standard 147, whilest very tricky to get a baby in the travel seat. The GT is a three seater still a bit tricky with a baby seat but a bit easier than the 147, but a much ladger boot than the 147 for a pram etc..For practicality go for the 156 GTA. For looks and an allround verdict go for the GT, just a bit of a struggle with the baby. One thought is put the baby in the front seat....Problem solved.

No offence , i just prefer a smaller car as big cars don't seem to suit me.
When my wife first become pregnant in 1997 with our first daughter,
i panicked and got rid of my corrado vr6 and bought a 24v Scorpio Granada with the cosworth cylinder heads, ,
my wife was not to ''pleased'' plenty of room and an engine which sounded like a v8,and was quite quick at the time for a big car,
and not forgetting very comfy in a barge kind of way.

Re: 147gta,156gta,or gt 3.2,
If you want safety & a family car, why not consider a 4 door, 5* NCAP 159
In terms of ride & interior quality, our 3.2 GT is like a rattly old bus compared the 2.2 Ti 159 and can't stay with it accross country when the going gets rough
GT has sharper steering though and that engine

Slightly O/T but its terrible when you get in other cars, with say a normal 4-pot and you're thinking to yourself - wheres the induction noise, rumble and yowl that the my V6 has?
really fantastic engine the Arese V6.

Thats exactly what i'm going through now owning the octy vrs 1.8 20v
turbo, also i've only had aspirated cars and iv'e never been keen on the way the turbo cars deliver the goods personely,
and i like the grunt of a v6 you can get them in top gear at quite low speed and they pull.
squadrone rosso,
both of your motors look very smart indeed,
so the gt is the better handling car, with a sound track to match.
