double-6s do you find your 156 GTA quite planted on the road when
cornering etc, also the boot must be a fair size.
Very planted mate. Overall grip is fookin excellent. I notice you had a rado VR6? Me too. Two actually. One was totally standard and one was very modified, including very very expensive H&R coilover suspension. The GTA still has way more grip and plantedness than the VRs. Largely down the the much greater stiffness I reckon. The GTA feels flat and planted in the corners, whereas you could feel the chassis flexing in the VRs. Saying that, my modded rado was an absolute demon through high speed bends
The boot is massive - plenty big enough for all my crap and two kids and all their stuff, and the Mrs and her 8 suit cases, 6 make-up bags, etc.
And it's WAAAAAY quicker than most things out there!
Get yourself down to the Alfa garage mate

Re: 147gta,156gta,or gt 3.2,
Agree with double - the 156GTA is the most "planted" car I've driven, and it's also the nicest to drive. I love our spider, that's well planted too, but it's not in the same class for handling, driveability nor as comfortable as the GTA.
4 doors is a major advantage with kids, especially babies/toddlers.

Re: 147gta,156gta,or gt 3.2,
I have a 147 GTA and I don't think it has enough space for your needs.
Personally, I would go for the 156 GTA SW - the perfect compromise and they look fantastic too.
Don't got for the GT - it is less powerful than the GTAs ; )

LOL.
No your not going mad, i have always been in to my dubs until i drove the 147 GTA,
i had a 2 year old mk1 GTI 1600 x reg, then i bought a factory zendor kitted mk1 campaign, and dropped a late mk2 16 valve in 185bhp,i also had a corrado vr6 and a 3 yr old vr6 highline in mulberry and bolted
a z engineering s/c to the engine , with schrick inlet manifold 260 bhp, i have a r/r graph from stealth showing bhp and torque comparison between GTA and my vr6,
I think the GTA is a fantastic bit of kit and i miss mine solely .
I know the vr6 is modded but believe me the GTA was quicker of the line IMO, but once the vr6 got traction it flew, weight vr6 1180kg
GTA i think is 1370kg correct me if i'm wrong,
but the GTA felt faster in some areas and it could pull from such low revs, the vr6 pulled well from 3000rpm, but again i'm not in to my vdubs now after owning the GTA and i dont think there would be much in it any way between the two cars.
in normal driving conditions the ''GTA IS MUCH BETTER'', and the low down pull seamed quite abit better in the GTA.
Attila.

Re: 147gta,156gta,or gt 3.2,
Before i put the shrick inlet manifold on the vr6 it did not have a big spike in torque at 3000 rpm that is how the schrick works it is not for bhp but torque,
my first r/r day with no schrick was 260bhp and 229lbs torque,
the graph also shows how r/r varies on different days as the bhp as dropped, and the torque up by 3 and abit lbs but with schrick.
i'm not trying to talk about the vr6 just a comparison as the original 260bhp graph went with the new owner.
And i wanted to put my GTA graph on.
rgds.

Re: 147gta,156gta,or gt 3.2,
Atilla,
Why not talk about the VR6 if you choose to......they are certainly interesting and definitely worth comparing. I know it is an Alfa site but don't we all compare things generally as we drive around. I for one am interesting in your thoughts on the difference.
I did get close to buying a Golf VR6 about 18 months ago....
I certainly think that although the graph seems to indicate that the Dub should perform better that your impression was that the GTA was the stronger of the two cars........... that has certainly got to be worth sharing. As most seem to know it is not all about graphs and £'s it is about the overall package and feel.
Keep up the good work...
E.

Re: 147gta,156gta,or gt 3.2,
Previously I had a delta integrale 16v. That was an awesome car, quicker of the line if got right and glued to the road. However at speed the GTA feels much more planted and more stable, maybe due to the extra size.

Eddie You were very lucky to own one, the evo ones can fetch a good premium now,
i must say your right about being quick of the line and they look awesome,i seen a yellow evo 2 in notts it stood out so much.
I'll get some pics up but I'll have to take a photo of a photo i did not have a digi camera in 1999,
i drove a ''blu Lagos evo 2 ltd edition'' in the mountains of Sardinia November 1999,i can only say at the time it was fantastic, and a lot of car films have used the winding road for shots,
it was on one of my trucking trips 15 days all over Italy and 5 days sardinia.i always remember the trip because on the last few days my mum phoned me to tell me my dad was terminally ill and he died after new year. , The strange thing was my dad also was a long distance truck driver, and he helped me so much before i left the uk regarding the drive to Italy and Sardinia.i did not mean to sound so depressing at Xmas.:xmas:

Re: 147gta,156gta,or gt 3.2,
I would love an Integrale - but could never live with left hand drive. I guess they can be converted but I hear there is no such thing as a rhd Integrale steering rack. Wasn't the closed from a Fiat Strada? I am told the few rhd drive cars lack the driving feel of an Integrale.

Yeah you are totally right, it was a regatta/strada rack I think. But everyone says it ruins the car. To be honest I was a bit wary at first but always wanted one, I ended up buying a car from an English guy living in the Netherlands. So having never driven a 4x4, turbo charged car or one with those levels of performance, I imported it and drove it back. I got used to it very quick and used to drive my dads car also, it just becomes automatic and you can hop between RHD and LHD. The only problem is some junctions and overtaking, but with that power and handling you can give yourself plenty of room.
I got rid of due to the running costs which were up to £2000 a year, Just gutted that I traded it at a main dealer which in hindsight was stupid. I got book price of £2500 in 2003 when I paid £4900 in 2001 which is what a decent 16v is going for now again.
It was utterly reliable, aside from some dodgy earths and a whining diff. If I had the money there would be another integrale out there next to the GTA
So if you can afford it, and want it, get one. Ignore the LHD issue because it really isn't an issue. LOL if I can drive LHD anyone can!!

Re: 147gta,156gta,or gt 3.2,
Been looking at 156 GTA'S, the prices vary somewhat an 03 seems to
be around 10,000 onwards from a specialist.
With mileage from 40,000 to 65,000, would you say that is quite reasonable, and at least i would get a year warranty.

Sidlow are a helpful company. Based in Horley, Surrey. Guess what? They have two 156 GTAs for sale: a saloon and a SW.
