Prototype Scorpion 147 GTA exhaust - what would you like?

Hi guys, quick intro.... I own a large mail order company specialising in performance parts. We deal with a huge number of big name brands.

One of my exhaust suppliers Scorpion, who build systems for me, are going to start work on my 147 GTA in January.

We are going to mock up a few different designs to see what works best.

I was hoping for some input from GTA owners as to what exhaust would suit the car? in terms of power, performance, look and design.

I have seen other exhausts on the market and to be honest I think there is room for a well made and designed, power tested system made in the UK!

I was thinking if "we" the GTA drivers help design the system then it would appeal to all, and there is the option of a group buy discounyed price when the system is ready.

any feedback much appreciated, thanks guys

that sounds great! a twin exit design is a no brainer on an alfa i feel! High pitch like the unicorse systems maybe...

Hello and Welcome, good luck on the exhaust there are lots of GTA owners on here who I'm sure will pop by to say hi and who will be able to help also check out the tech lounges / searches as i'm sure GTA exhausts have been disscussed a few times on here

hope you will stock around

I too think if you can make the exhaust like the Japnese Unicorse then it will be a winner.

Re: Prototype Scorpion 147 GTA exhaust - what would you like?

We have got a Supersprint system on one of the GTA's (my wife's) and a standard one on the other. (Supersprint sounds fantastic - low, deep burr...ble!)

I know you are going to roll your eyes but I would like a side exit one on mine. I did have one on my track day Alfa 33 and it was fantastic. It sounded good and helped with performance. Originally it came out just in front of the back wheels on the drivers side as for some reason I thought it would be illegal to have it coming out on the pavement side. About a year later I saw a number of cars with exhausts on the passenger side so took mine off, cut it in half (so across the pipe) near the gear lever area, rotated it 180 degrees and welded everything back together again. So it then poked out of the passenger side. This made it quieter for the driver which was better.

I know you might thing this would be a bit odd on a GTA, but ultimately my car will one day become a track car, and although it would be a bit louder a side exit exhaust is a lot, lot lighter and more straight through. On the 33 I did have quite a large, long centre box and that helped keep the road noise down to legal levels .....and my did it sound good!!

I would be happy for my car to act as a 'mule' for this or something similar - as eventually I will be fabricating a side exit exhaust one day for myself, so may as well try and do it as professionally as possible.
And......having done it once before with some trial and error I kinda know what works......

Edward.

Cul, yeah I guess you are right......oh well - just an idea!

Nice 147 GTA by the way, I always somehow think that they look very good in black.

Thanks

Its not black, its cosmos blue.
Looks black when its not sunny, but when the suns out it brings the blue metallic flakes out.

Everyone thinks its black but does a double take (and comments) when its sunny. Which isnt often in blighty!!

Re: Prototype Scorpion 147 GTA exhaust - what would you like?

gonna start R&D on this project shortly guys

just after some opinions on tail pipe design....

size? style? straight cut, slash cut, twin, single, etc?

personally I think a slighter larger version of the standard twin round exits would suit it well

What he said!! Unicorse is the nicest GTA system I've heard.

Are you redesigning the manifolds are well or just doing a cat-back system?

As for tailpipe designs, I like the Autodelta quad exhausts myself but I know many others think they are OTT. I have a single oval SuperSprint system on my 156 3.2 V6 and it does look pretty good

Re: Prototype Scorpion 147 GTA exhaust - what would you like?

Personally I would like something very similar in appearance to the standard item tailpipe wise (wouldn’t want the bumper cut out to look cramped) with a less obvious box and no louder at higer speeds as I cover 20,000 motorway miles a year.

I find it loud on tickover which is a bit of a pain when in traffic

Going to send mine to a specialist to shut it up a bit.
CSC is the best looking aftermarket exhaust for the GTA IMO.

Re: Prototype Scorpion 147 GTA exhaust - what would you like?

The CSC (I just have the back box) is louder at tickover, and can be a bit boomy at low revs (eg. 4th gear, 30mph). However it is no louder at motorway speeds and has a great top end rasp to it. It also looks pretty tidy as Cul suggested!

Re: Prototype Scorpion 147 GTA exhaust - what would you like?

Mark,
i would suggest that you develop an exhaust that is very similar in appearance to the standard exhaust(twin exit slash and rolled inwards).
In terms of developing an exhaust your starting point should be measuring back pressure at full load and during transient acceleration on your standard exhaust. Then try to improve on that.
Decat pipes would then be very good. Try to retain equal diameter all the way through and eliminate and smooth out as many bends as possible. In terms of noise i would suggest that IF sropion have the experties to noise tune the exhaust then it would be good to try and make the exhaust sound more italian and more like the unicorse exhaust without being intrusive and abuse the original driving experience.
I will not ask for exhaust manifolds as i dont believe small exhasut companies can produce decent manifolds.

How about a system similar to the autodelta quad with a more 'supersprint' sound?
